Edgemorph Sustainability
edgeMORPH was a temporary installation presented at Dubai Design Week 2023, held from 7–12 November 2023 at Dubai Design District. The project explored material innovation and sustainable design through a site-specific installation crafted entirely from Desert Board, an engineered material produced from upcycled palm fronds.
edge Architects designed the installation in collaboration with DesertBoard, Abanos, and ASG, bringing together local partners to demonstrate the potential of regionally sourced, sustainable building materials.
Location: Dubai. UAE | Year: 2023 | Collaborators: DesertBoard, Abanos, ASG | Event: Dubai Design Week 2023

edgeMORPH was constructed entirely from Palm Strand Board (PSB®), an engineered material manufactured in the UAE using the bio-ecological residual mass of palm fronds. The installation showcased the material’s structural and aesthetic potential while highlighting an alternative to conventional construction materials.
The design created an immersive, wood-centric spatial experience defined by organic, flowing curves and complex, non-linear forms. Voids were strategically integrated into the structure, allowing light and shadow to animate the installation and encouraging visitors to move through and engage with the space.
The project formed part of Dubai Design Week’s broader 2023 focus on Middle Eastern heritage, local material innovation, and sustainable technologies. Through its material choice and fabrication approach, edgeMORPH demonstrated how locally derived resources can be reimagined within contemporary design applications.
